The Universe Provides
July 16th, 2008 by ali
I was waiting, rather impatiently, for a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) training program that was scheduled to start in October.
Last week Tuesday, I received a message to call the program to confirm my interest in the October classes. I did and, during the conversation, the coordinator mentioned that someone from the July class just called them and canceled. Too bad there wasn’t enough time for me to be ready! Unfortunately, even if I obtained CPR and first aid certification tomorrow, I still needed to have a physical prior to the start of classes on next week Monday! I quickly called my doctor’s office and, awesome people as they are, they squeezed me in on Friday! I took the CPR and first aid classes the very next day. My hapai daughter graciously loaned me two sets of her "too small" scrubs and we found a pair of seriously comfy (and cheap!) white shoes at Payless. My friend bought me a Nurse Minnie Mouse watch and a few pairs of scrubs, too!
So, through an entirely unexpected series of "meant to be" events, I was able to enroll in and start the July classes. I will be done by the end of August! Talk about perfect timing!
I hope that these classes are the start of a mid-life career change for me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my position in the social work field. I enjoyed working with my clients and was truly blessed to touch their lives as they have touched mine. They’ve taught me that I want to spend most of my time with the actual person instead of spending the majority of time on paperwork. As a CNA, I will have the opportunity to interact and provide more direct care.
